QMines drilling at Artillery Road hits large sulphide body
QMines (ASX: QML) is making fast progress with its Artillery Road copper discovery in Queensland.
It announced the discovery of three large copper gossans in early July, then 10 days later had nailed down an access agreement with the landowner.
Now, less than three months since the initial discovery, QMines reports that its drilling at Artillery Road has identified a broad zone of semi-massive sulphides.
Artillery Road is part of the company’s Mt Chalmers flagship project, located 17km northeast of Rockhampton
All 13 holes intersected body
All 13 drill holes, for 2,373 metres, have intersected the large sulphide bearing zone, which is up to 25m wide, 700m long and 250m deep.
Mineralisation remains open along strike and at depth with mapping indicating this mineralisation extends 1.40km in length and is 0.45km wide.
“Copper and zinc sulphide content appear to be increasing towards the northwest,” the company says.
Potential to be ‘company defining’
Managing Director Andrew Sparke said that once QMines has received the drilling results from this Phase 1 program, further drilling will target strike extensions, particularly to the northwest where copper sulphide is improving.
There is also a large magnetic anomaly to the east.
“The Artillery Road discovery has the potential to become a company defining deposit,” said Mr Sparke
He has previously noted that the Artillery Road prospect, on which the anomalies were identified, has geological similarities with the Mt Chalmers copper and gold project.
Artillery Road is the first of many greenfield exploration targets at Mt Chalmers to be explored.
Drilling now moves to strongest target
Drilling at another electromagnetic target, VT04, is scheduled to begin soon.
VT04 is the largest and strongest of the 34 electromagnetic targets and the company states that results from VT04 are “eagerly awaited”.
Meanwhile, to improve the company’s understanding of the system, and to assist with targeting, a broad suite of elements is being tested at the laboratory.
Petrological analysis is also underway.
